This guy is going to be playing Jason Voorhees in the remake. BUT. It seems there might be either something wrong with the info from Bloody-Disgusting OR Jared's role is different than we thought.

This morning we received exclusive intel - which has been confirmed - that Derek Mears (The Hills Have Eyes 2, Cursed) is in final talks to play Jason Voorhees in the remake of Friday the 13th for Platinum Dunes, New Line Cinema, MTV and Paramount Pictures. We have also been informed that he is in fact going to be the new Jason, it's just a matter of time until everything is finalized. FRIDAY THE 13th is set to hit theaters everywhere on February 13, 2009. Marcus Nispel is set to direct from a screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Jared Padalecki will play one of the teens. Anyone have any insight/info on this?

[ETA] Here's what Hollywood Reporter said about the role on March 21st:

Jared Padalecki is in final negotiations to star in the remake of "Friday the 13th" that Platinum Dunes is producing for New Line and Paramount. ...

The remake will focus on the serial killer, who will wear his now-iconic hockey mask. Padalecki will play the lead, who investigates what happened up at Crystal Lake.

So I guess it doesn't say anywhere that he's a detective but I still find it VERY unlikely he's a teen, especially from what other people have said in the comments below.
