I have 25 Supernatural icons, all from 4.01, up for grabs in my personal journal.

Let me preface this review with a little request. I'm not going to be upset getting spoiled for this show AS THE SHOW. But I would prefer not knowing anything that's going to happen in the books because we don't know how far into the books this season is going to get or where they might diverge. Please don't share any spoilers, book or show related. Thanks.
I've noticed that some people like to explain or justify things that are happening in the show by what they read in the books or what they know happened in them. I'd prefer to avoid that whole mess and not be spoiled for anything, although if I get spoiled accidentally throughout my day-to-day interneting I'm not going to be upset. But I won't go looking for anything, either.
Also,
truebloodnews. Check it out.
WOWWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW.
This episode was SO CHEESY AND BAD. I loved it even so, but this show is really slipping into 'guilty pleasure' territory, bordering on 'I feel like I have to hide my like for this show from normal people'.
Parts of it reminded me SO MUCH of Twilight. Especially the beginning when Bill was getting all growly over Sookie. That SCREAMED Edward when he got stupid, macho, territorial and jackassed. I get that Bill feels a connection to Sookie and I get his reasoning to her for why he had to say what he did (and I"m sure he did have to make it clear to the other vamps that she was off limits BUT STILL. A lot of it had to do with him WANTING her) but it could have been a lot less... cheesy. I would have liked to have seen him act quicker and step in faster because DUH. She's going to be terrified that three vamps want to jump her bones, literally and metaphorically.
I've never read the books that this show is based on (I've heard the first season, at least, is only based on one of the books? Dead something? Whatever, doesn't matter) so I can't speak to the sexual content (although I've heard there's a fair amount? Or at least some?) but right now the show is already drifting into like- Laurell K. Hamilton territory. Which I don't mind, as long as Sookie doesn't become Anita (think the most powerfully sexy Mary-Sue you've ever thought of, multiply that by 10,000 and give her a gun. That's how the author sees herself, apparently, so Anita gets to be a ball-busting sex-pot, too. Oh, and by having sex with people she HEALS them. Yes.). The sexual content in this post did make me a little uncomfortable, especially since Sookie is still coming to terms with her feelings for Bill. I understand that was the crux of her dilemma but it just seemed... so tawdry. Her sitting out on his front step, trying to get herself off? It kinda gave me the willies.
Jason's predicament continues to amuse, if slightly annoy. I didn't mind Tara and Sam sleeping together but it's obviously going to put a kink in the relationships of everyone around them, which I look forward to seeing.
I've seen some people dislike the revelation that Bill slept with some kinky vampire chick who favours gold lame clothing back in the 1930's. But like- DUH. He's a vampire! It's already been established that sex with a vampire, and probably moreso vampire sex in general, is the Best. Sex. Ever. Bill's been alive for what? 300+ years? OF COURSE HE'S HAD SEX. I'm sure he's had sex with many vampires and humans and everything in between. I'm sure he's had sex with people as he's been draining them, or changed people just so he could have sex with them or WHATEVER. Sex happens, apparently. And this is an HBO show. If you expect anyone to have been a virgin or to remain a virgin for very long, you're watching the wrong show. Especially one about vampires.
Bill's wild side was also referenced in this ep by the troublesome trio, which I'm looking forward to seeing emerge. He almost lost control in front of Sookie by biting into that dude with the short shorts. That whole scene was weird, weird, weird to me. But whatever. I wouldn't mind seeing Bill lose all of his inhibitions but I don't know how far into that the show can get with vampires now be accepted into society and his involvement in the community hinging on him not killing anyone or going haywire. We'll see how wacky and wild he can get.
So the dog is Sam's and communicates with him or something? I was starting to think that Sam was the dog but that hasn't panned out now, that I can see. Still a connection, though, and one that's becoming more interesting.
I don't know if HBO shows a promo for the next week's episode with the eps but we don't get one up here on our channel, which sucks a bit. I'll have to wait for one to pop up on youtube to get a hint where the show might be going with Jason being linked to two deaths now with women he's had sex with. And how Sookie is going to deal with her predicament.

Date: 2008-09-22 03:33 pm (UTC)I totally keep seeing the Twilight connections, and while it's a little annoying at times, I sort of like it, 'cause the show's so cracky and cheesy.

Date: 2008-09-22 08:06 pm (UTC)I agree with everything, especially everyone being up in arms over Bill and the vampire chick having sex. Why? I haven't read the books either, but I find it hard to believe that Bill is and has always been a gentleman, so to speak. Just because we've seen him restrained doesn't mean he always has been or always will be. And I think we got a glimpse of that, with short-shorts dude. I think with Sookie it might've sparked a little bit of jealousy but, as you said, he's been around for a while.
Annnyway, thanks again for the caps!

Date: 2008-09-23 05:04 am (UTC)The Twilight feeling, see I don't so much get it from the show as I do from the books. I just started reading the books after the first ep. aired and it made me think of Twilight a lot but it's not hard to draw that parallel. Bill and Edward are not that far removed from each other but Bella and Sookie for sure live in two different worlds.

Date: 2008-09-23 06:56 am (UTC)The "she is mine" part I think was really well done. You could see that Bill was tensed in his seat and ready to pounce. It's a pretty defining moment in the book and for the rest of the story.
Anyway your caps are once again totally amazing. :)

Date: 2008-09-23 01:37 pm (UTC)Sorry, I didn't mean for that to come off bitchy. Some other people have pointed out to me that Twilight came after these books a number of times, sometimes getting a little passionate about it.
