Well well well. What have we here? This ep... hmm. I liked it, sure. It wasn't as good as Solitary or Outlaws by any means but it was a fun, insightful episode. Yes, I said fun. Cause I laughed. Tee hee. I wasn't particularly jazzed about Jin's ep but I wasn't horribly repulsed either, like from a Jack episode (can he BE anymore boring?).

The only really major thing that struck me from the opening was DAMN Sun is skinny. At least the bottom to her bathing suit covered more than a typical bikini though, eh? Gotta keep within respectable censor boundaries. *rolls eyes* So, anyhoo. Jin's all- OMGSKIN! and runs over to wrap Sun up in her towel thing. Gots ta keep yer woman in line, dude.

Sun is, rightfully and understandably, quite pissed. So then there's some arguing that draws the attention of their fellow island-goers and everyone's all- goddamn, not again. But then Jin gets all pushy and Michael gets huffed up and then there's this show of macho, male-ness. Until Sun estrogenizes the place and smacks the hell out of Michael.

This episode is supposed to be all about Jin so of course he's the one that gets to have all those far-out, angst-ridden flashback faces. The first is of him confronting Sun's father about marrying her. We all remember how this story went from ep 1x06, House of the Rising Sun- his father wants Jin to work with him in exchange for his daughter's hand in marriage. We also find out that Jin's father is dead which makes me ask, almost exasperated, if everyone on this show has father issues. Cause thus far we have Jack, Sawyer, possibly Kate, Walt, probably Boone/Shannon... Everyone's fucked up! Yat!

After everyone's suitably unsettled by the skirmish between Michael, Sun and Jin Hurley tries to make some inroads with Jin by bringing some fishing equipment to him while he drives some rocks at the golf course. There's no real significance to this scene except I really wanted to squish Hurley cause he's so damn cute.

And THEN there was a scene between Shannon and Sayid that made me very happy. Finally, some out-and-out sexual attraction between the characters that isn't just being hinted at and played with. Shannon made a huge step with the whole, "Let's get some rope and you and me be alone on a Saturday night" line, or however it went. I don't mind Shannon, I don't think. I don't hate her, that's for sure and I secretly (or not-so, given that I've talked about it before. *rolls eyes*) ship Shannon/Boone. But I think I could also get into Shannon/Sayid. They're so pretty together and they have good chemistry. He balances her nicely.

I wish Walt had more enthusiasm about NYC like his dad. It's NEW YORK CITY! *squishes NYC* It looks like Josh might have gotten a haircut before this ep. But that's not the point here. The point is that I'm completely confused as to why Sawyer would ever want a spot on the raft. Let's think this through, shall we? It's been established from the very first episode that they have NO IDEA where they are. All they know is that they were about 1000 miles off course when they had turned back to land at Fiji. They've seen no other signs of life aside from the various other crazies and general weird monsters and there's no hope they're going to. The only food they have is that which is perishable and since the raft can only hold four people it's unlikely they'd have enough room to store much food or supplies anyway. It's not like they can catch fish and cook them on the raft and even if they could Jin or Hurley (the only other person who has shown even interest in fishing, from what I can tell) wouldn't be going.

So. Stranded out in the middle of the South Pacific with no working compass (again, from what we've seen a few eps ago, anyway), limited resources and NO IDEA where they're going. Sounds like a winning plan.

So why does Sawyer want to go? To get off the island? He's got a pretty good set-up where he is. Got supplies, a roof over his head, a pretty lady with obvious sexual chemistry with which to flirt... yeah, I can see him heading out into the middle of nowhere with Michael, Walt and another un-named person. Suuuure. If Kate decided to take the fourth spot she and Sawyer could get it on and provide Walt with all the sexual education he'd ever want. Just like the way [livejournal.com profile] kantayra wrote about it here in her LJ.

So it was about here that I read a post by someone on my flist and was spoiled for who actually burned the raft, so that sucked cause I didn't know and didn't particularly want to know, but whatever. I would have found out about a half hour later anyway.

There was another flashback here where we find out where the dog came from that Jin gave to Sun. Seems that Sun's father runs a factory and for some reason or another that I either missed or didn't really care about, the factory was shut down and he sent Jin to this guy's house to tell him he wasn't pleased with this decision. So off Jin goes and the guy's all- OHGODOHSHITHAVEADOG. Cause he was scared pissless for reasons we find out later. Jin's all- Uh.... sure. And he takes the dog home. Daddy is NOT happy. Cause his factory is still shut down. So he sends Jin with this other guy wearing a white suit back to the house to show him how to really get things moving. On the way over the guy in the white suit is putting on latex gloves and all I can think is, "WHEE! Prostate exam!" Only less fun. Of course, you have to wonder why he's putting on gloves if he's wearing a goddamn white suit. I get the fingerprints and all but to me it just didn't make sense. Cause blood all over a white suit? Not exactly inconspicuous.

Jin storms in while the family is having dinner and throws the guy in this little pond thing they've got going on in the backyard, I think, and punches his lights out before the whitesuit!guy can put some holes in him. Jin goes home and this is the scene we've seen before where he comes home all bloody. Sun is upset, of course. Blah blah, pity cakes, blah. Jin's all kinds of upset when she leaves the bathroom and we get to see how everything has affected him since he got in cahoots with her dad. It's nice to see the other side of Jin, I suppose, but I guess I just can't feel much sympathy for him. I don't feel a connection to him yet (if at all) so it's harder.

[livejournal.com profile] kantayra pointed out that when Jin made the first visit to the guy's house his daughter was on the couch watching tv and Hurley was on it! I missed it but I think it's a clue for next week's ep. I've only seen the promo photos for the ep and a general summary so I don't know for sure but that's what I expect was the reason for him to be on the tv. Fun!

In the middle of all this Shannon and Sayid have been moving closer but then Sayid had to go talk to Boone about their burgeoning romance and rub it in his face. So of course Boone tries to dissuade him cause even though Locke beat him upside the head and smeared that stuff on it, he's still madly in love with her. You all know it. Guess Locke will have to try a different tactic to win Boone over. *cough* So yeah. Sayid's all- yeah, me and your sister? We're gonna get it on momentarily. Take THAT bitch! And Boone's all- yeah? She'll always like me better than you so na na na na na. And Sayid's all- oh shit. So he tells Shannon that she should make her own shelter and to back the hell up. So she's all- oh for fuck's sake, you men are all stupid penises. She goes off to tell Locke to tell Boone to ease up off her action and he's all- Do you like Sayid or do you LIKE-like Sayid? Shannon gets something more out of that than I do, luckily and makes up her mind about some stuff.

So yeah, the raft caught on fire somehow and everyone (well, Michael, at least) immediately blamed Jin. He was all yelly to Sun and since they're on rocky ground to begin with things didn't go especially well. She ran off and he was all pissed and stuff. Way to be. Sun finds Jin in the caves, trying to wash out the burn on his arm or put ointment on it, I'm not sure. I didn't pay much attention. Either way, he didn't say anything to refute the suspicions that he set the raft on fire so Sun believed it as well. He just took off and fell asleep in the jungle somewhere. Unfortunately for him Sawyer decided to be out and about looking for him and gave him a good morning boot to the head. Poor Jin.

He's dragged back to the beach for all to see and he and Michael start going at it a little. Rather, Michael pounds the shit out of Jin while everyone watches and Sun just stands there like a lump. But then she finally reveals that she can speak english and lets everyone know that he didn't do it. For me, this is where the ep really started getting good. Everything was slow to this point and the flashbacks were of things that we've already seen or knew about from ep 1x06.

Now that Sun's revealed that she speaks english everyone is taken aback aside from Michael and Kate. Jin looks downright betrayed, which he has been. This effectively stops the fight and everyone storms off, leaving Sun alone. I don't know if I felt bad for her here, necessarily, but it seemed like all the shit was put on her shoulders, in a way. Because she was hiding so much from everyone, because her marriage to Jin has pushed away the one guy who kind of understood... it's all just very confusing for her and now she's made a mess of it all, even though she was just trying to make things right.

She goes to talk to Jin, to explain herself, to try and make amends but he's packing up his stuff to move from the caves. I really liked this scene, especially where she finally told him she was leaving- albeit in english so he couldn't understand her but I'm sure that he did, really.

I did enjoy the next flashback. We see Jin on a dock somewhere and he approaches a man in a small boat, a fisherman. It's his dad who he previously said was dead. This scene did bring tears to my eyes cause I'm a sucker for things like this. He finally had some sense knocked into him and his dad suggests that when he make that trip to take the watches to Sydney and LA that he stay there in the States and not come back. He wants to start over with his wife, which is what she asked right before he lapsed into the flashback. Unfortunately he says no and storms off, leaving Sun there in the caves alone.

Later that night/day/whatever Shannon approaches Sayid and gives him some lame-ass line about how the island is giving them a do-over and she wants it to start now and kisses him. Which I enjoyed. I don't know if I'll ship Sayid/Shannon but I like them together, as I mentioned. I'm glad they're not beating around the bush with them.

Locke and Walt sit down to have a game of backgammon while Michael is off trying to find something salvageable from the raft. Locke knows that it was Walt to really burned down the raft, but he says he won't tell anyone. Locke has ulterior motives for wanting to stay on the island, fine. But if I had been the one to know Walt had set the raft on fire? You bet I'd be telling people. Hell, I'd have beat his ass right then and there. Not cause I'd want to be ON the raft (are you INSANE?! It's a deathtrap!) but because he destroyed property, let someone else take the blame and get beat up for it, and could have seriously hurt himself or someone else. I once played with fire too, little boy, and I got a spanking for it. You may be ten and it's debatable whether you can conjure up a polar bear with your mind but you'd be getting a whup across the bottom if you were my kid, let me tell you. *grumbles about children and vows to kill ovaries soon*

I really liked the end here, of the whole ep really, but especially of the montage at the end. First off- they played Damien Rice's Delicate which is an amazing song in itself and I love it to bits so right off I was all- WHEE! *retarded seal clap* There was Shannon and Sayid, all close and snuggly and Sun, back in her bikini, and free for the first time in awhile. Lovely moment there. And Jin's first english word! So cute! "Boat" Then it flashed to Charlie and Claire and the music is rising and they panned out to show Charlie further down the beach, listening to his discman. The sound flickered for a moment and I was all- oh, fuck my feed is going. And then the batteries went in his discman and it was the FUNNIEST THING EVER! Seriously. People on boards have been saying that should happen, just as it did, and it was hysterical. Loved it.

Overall, I didn't mind this ep. There was nothing in the way of plot advancement or anything but it gave us a look at an under used character and more insight into Jin and Sun's lives, both of which could come into greater play in the coming episodes. Right after the fight, as I said, the episode picked up for me, and I really enjoyed it. I wasn't on the egde of my seat but I loved the flashback with Jin and his father and the emotion behind it, and the emotion behind the final shot of sun. Damien Rice and the funny and the emotion. I nice ep overall but not too integral to anything else. I also enjoyed the lack of Charlie/Claire, Jack and Jack/Kate. Very, VERY nice. It doesn't happen often that Jack moves to the background so this was a nice change. And I'm looking forward to seeing how the Sayid/Shannon relationship progresses and how that affects the dynamic.

I've made it clear that I'm disappointed in this season of Alias so far. I miss the show that was, even if I never totally understood it. So I was looking forward to this ep because Anna Espinosa and Sark were going to be back as guest stars. I wasn't looking forward to it as much as I think I should have, given the guest stars, but I chalk that up to lack of interest in the show so far this season.

It did manage to hold my attention and keep me from flipping back and forth to another show, which was a huge step forward for me. The Rambaldi mystery was back, somewhat, so that was a plus. And SARK! And ANNA! How can you NOT love them?

Nadia? She's a lamer, okay? I liked her when she was all wrapped up in the Rambaldi thing with Sloane but I don't really like her as a character and I don't really like the acting either. She's added an element of melodrama that REALLY wasn't needed. Syd does enough emo-emoting on her own, thanks.

I liked the Anna/Syd interaction. I can so see some fem-slash coming out of the scene in the dressing room between them. I loved Sark too, even though I kind of wasn't paying much attention. Vaughn got to smack him and yet Sark came right back, talking about Lauren. Sark's hot. And sexy. Yes. I loved how at ease he is, like in the warehouse with the champagne. I can't describe it, but he's just so casual and relaxed. Love it.

That's really all I can say about the ep. I know more happened and all but honestly, that's all that really stuck out for me. I'm hoping next week can spice things up some. Maybe. Hopefully. Maybe Nadia will kick the bucket?! *is hopeful*

It's not that I don't see the potential for Veronica/Logan, cause I SO do. That scene with him crying and her holding him? Right to my gut. Perhaps if there were more eps with them working together, getting closer, I could be persuaded but right now my shipper heart is still firmly entrenched in the notion of Veronica/Weevil cause I can FEEL the vibes between them. It's the bad boy pull, I admit, and of course he's got a heart of gold underneath. It's just wonderful for me. But I am also a firm believer in Weevil/Logan. So with a little more Logan/Veronica interaction I could be swayed to any mix of the three. W00t!

I really liked this ep, especially at the end, of course, cause that's where all the best stuff is used to throw you off guard in this show. The rest was fun too, of course. I found the multitude of cases she was working on a little distracting but the one with the Russians was the only one that felt a little out of place. Given the significance of the other two (Logan's mom and Meg's mystery date) it seemed a little out of place. But whatever.

Good riddance, Duncan and Meg can have each other. I didn't mind Meg but I found her a little annoying, I guess. I've already made my feelings on Duncan very clear and he still makes my nose turn up a little. He's just very annoying.

Deputy Dewey, or whatever the fuck he's called? Boring. Yeah, he's good to look at (although, totally not my type) but that's it! He talks like he's got phlegm stuck in his throat or he's constantly trying not to laugh. And how old is he supposed to be? Cause realistically he should be about 23-24, right? And Veronica is 16? 17? That's creepy, dude. If he's younger, well, that's great and all but realistically it's weird. And if I had already been suspended once for (inadvertently) helping this chick out, why would I be so inclined to help her again? *shakes head* You're just a pretty, air-filled head on stop of a fine looking body, dude. Hope you don't get too comfortable being on set. We all remember what happened to Troy.

For all that UPN and the promos hyped up Alyson Hannigan she sure didn't do much. I'm not sure what to think of her in the role of Trina Echolls. Anyone remember from s3 of Buffy in Doppelgangland when she was good!willow trying to be evil!willow and the funny tone her voice took on? That's kind of what she sounded like here. Like she wasn't quite into the role. It could just be me, seeing her as Alyson/Willow and not expecting her to be this way but she didn't seem to fit properly. It could also be that we didn't get enough of a look at the character to see what she's going to contribute to the show now. I think she's coming back for another ep, later in the season. I think. And when her sitcom with Jennifer Love Hewitt tanks (don't even try to deny it, you KNOW it will), and when Veronica Mars gets picked up for a second season (*crosses fingers and hopes REALLY hard*) she might come back as a more regular character.

I wished that Weevil could have been in the ep, even if only to ride his motorcycle into the gym or something. *loves on Weevil*

The end really caught me. I didn't think she'd find her mom, especially not tanked out of her mind. I'm going to have to go back and re-watch the end cause I think I might have missed something, like one of the guys that was there, or my monitor was too dark to see properly. I'll just have another look through.

So, to recap- Deputy= boring, Loagn= aww, woobie, weevil= hothothot, meg= meh, duncan= spawn of satan, keith= yeah, whatever, everyone else= you were good too. I think.

Whew. Another week with a lot of tv.

I get my bursary next week so I should (hopefully) have my new computer by this time next week. Am so excited, could pee. *refrains*

I'm slightly starting to freak out over my papers so I have to get started on those. I want to have at least 3 pages done in my seminar paper by Friday.

I think I also might start posting the fic I've been working on soon. I've got four parts done already and another one started. So there will be three after this one I'm working on and the epilogue. So we'll see. I just have to get it betaed properly. Maybe. I might wait. Maybe till this part is finished. *is torn* Whatever. I'll see.
