Earlier tonight was rather exciting. I wrote almost 1500 words on the computer and actually wrote something of SUBSTANCE! I might be able to get my
spn_apocasmut finished after all! You have no idea what a relief it was, what a weight it was off my shoulders to get it all down. I don't know if it's GOOD but it's there and that's hopeful. It's more than I've been able to do in over two months.
OH OH! Remnder! (I'm going to be doing this a lot!) BIDDING IS NOW OPEN AT SWEET CHARITY! I'm offering two fics and icons, and
spuzz, my iconing partner, is also offering graphics! Go bid, win someone to make you pretty stuff (or just something you've been wanting for awhile, and give to a great cause!
Man, the Brit shows are kinda full of fail this week in my books.
Gwen is a lucky, LUCKY woman. Rhys LOVES THE SHIT out of her. I don't know who else would put up with so much bullshit from her and still love her as uncondintionally as he does. Does anyone else sense that something's coming for them though? That Rhys might be coming to that point of 'I've had enough, suck it'?
Which isn't to say that the events of tonight's episode were all on Gwen's shoulders. I can't fault her for being determined to help someone find their son. It seemed like a bit of a tenuous link to Gwen and Rhys' baby discussions for the episode (were there actually any discussions or did Gwen just throw Rhys' wants in his face? I was only paying half attention for a lot of this episode) but it would have worked without it because Gwen's just like this. She's a freaking bulldog when she gets ahold of something. It was slightly misguided, as always, with this episode but again- NOT ALL HER FAULT.
Jack. Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack. Why in the hell do they insist on writing your character as this enigmatic asshole all the time now? You're constantly holding secrets, barking orders not to do something and then making it IMPOSSIBLE for the other characters (ESPECIALLY GWEN!) to ignore your connection to the case of the week. He's become very one dimensional of late, always basically spouting, "Do as I say, not as I do." Maybe there's a bigger purpose for it, maybe he came back from his experience at the end of the world more fucked up than ever--I have no idea but I don't really like it.
I'm quickly growing tired of Jack/Ianto. I WANT TO KNOW MORE, DAMMIT. I don't want to see someone accidentally walking in on them in a half-naked embrace or whatever, you know? Goddammit, I want to know more about Ianto. I want to know more just so people can stop putting "Not just a tea boy" on their damn icons. I don't understand why there hasn't been more focus on them, more focus on Ianto. I'm hoping that it's for a bigger purpose, that maybe it's all leading up to the finale next week, somehow. I don't know. This show has such a weird tendency of glossing over things and mentioning them in passing after the fact or not seeinf certain things as being as big as they are even though they totally could be and leaves the viewers scratching their heads.
It's just not enough to keep me interested in them but it'll be enough to make some other fans off their heads insane. Just because both of them are naked from the waist up and are clearly going to be getting into more intense activities doesn't make me particularly hot. SHOW ME SOMETHING, DAMMIT. Show me a conversation between them that doesn't involve innuendo, props or some kind of weird kink. Does Jack go grocery shopping with Ianto? Does Ianto even spend much time wherever he lives? Where does Jack live? Do they ever spend the night together or does that stuff only happen at the office? And why in the hell DOES it happen in the office? I know Jack's got a kink about that but come on, branch out, eh?
Clearly Ianto is exerting his own will over things, though. The meaningful looks Ianto's had after certain events when Jack's said or done something are meant to be foreshadowing. WORDS WORK, TOO. And in this episode he was the one that tipped Gwen off about something I can't remember right off, but he's not 100% behind the way Jack works, either. I'd even be willing to go as far as to say he's getting kind of sick with the way Jack's been operating, too.
Jack isn't the character he was when he debuted in Doctor Who. I know he CAN'T be because of circumstances and because people change and all but the way the character is being written right now he's almost bitter and mean about the things he does. He seemingly doesn't care about people but he's willing to risk lives to save an alien. He's adament about the team not doing this or that, but he doesn't explain why. If he'd only been up front about what he was doing with the people who were sucked up by the rift they would have been like- okay, let us help you. And maybe then Gwen would have realized the severity in telling people about their loved ones and TW--the whole kit and caboodle.
I'm wondering if Andy's going to have a bigger cog in the wheel soon. He's pretty damn pissed off at Gwen, and for good reason. She's more like Jack than she realizes and it's not a good thing. He knows about Torchwood, he had a thing for Gwen and hates Rhys. That's not the best combination. And she's just gone and basically shit on someone who he'd been helping and was becoming a friend with. So she's not really racking up the happy points in Andy's books. I just hope they don't make him crazy or anything or psychotic. That would blow cause Andy's adorable.
This episode just wasn't what I was hoping it would be. Gwen isn't the cause of everything that happened in the episode, which I'm wondering is just me getting used to her ways of charging ahead without thinking things through 100%. Jack is wearing on me in a BIG WAY, I'm quickly getting over Jack/Ianto. Good lord I hope something awesome happens in the two episodes next week.
Speaking of the preview, that first episode looks amazing, actually. I tend to enjoy those... fantasy? esque episodes or the ones that become a huge mindfuck. We'll see. Death = thumbs up for me!

This is an awesome shot.

The shots of Gwen on the island are gorgeous. AWESOME.
