Um. WOW?
No, like... OMGWTFBBQPOLARBEARWOWWOWWOW!!!111one!!!!
I almost missed this ep due to extreme fatigue. I took a half-hour nap on my desk, luckily drool free, and woke up at JUST the right moment for the show to start. But then I went to sprawl on my bed with my junior mints and things got hazy for the first few minutes of the show. VERY VERY BAD!
But but but. I managed to wake up and see what is easily one of the VERY BEST episodes this season.
I went into this ep pretty much blind. There were no promo photos and I've been avoiding spoilers for the most part, except for whatever Kristin from eonline.com talks about, which isn't ever much. So, yeah. All I knew is that it was a new ep and I just wanted to stay awake for it.
AND BOY HOWDY AM I GLAD I DID!
I kind of remember someone telling Locke something about him being the product of immaculate conception and his mom being in a mental institution or something. I think. That's when I was hazy at the beginning. All I know is that Locke looked like Red from That 70's Show and like a greeter from Walmart. When he got the info on his father and was driving in his car I got a kind of Shining-esque feeling from the flashbacks with his dad. Not sure why. It was just weird. WEIRD!
Okay so... *scans through IM convo with
kantayra. Walmart, The Shining, weird, freaky religious episode reviewer who's stupider than dirt... right.
So Sawyer's been having headaches and crap that hit him pretty hard during the day and Kate has taken it upon herself to notice and inform Jack about it. The previews on the Canadian channel were focusing on that storyline a bit more then it actually came out to be so when they mentioned the brain tumour I knew he wouldn't have one but they did make his problem out to be more than it was. So Jack toddles over to see Sawyer and get the 411 on his problem. Sawyer, of course, is a dick about it cause he's in pain and well, he's Sawyer. All I know is that when Jack started asking about the tumour and if he smelled stuff burning all I could think was "Dr. Pennfield, I smell burnt toast" (which won't mean a thing to anyone who isn't Canadian or hasn't seen Canadian heritage moments).
So Locke and Boone are STILL trying to get into that crazy hatch thing which, by now, looks like a big water tank or something. Locke's set up this big axe thing or something but it doesn't work, or course, and Locke is wicked pissed. Insane and pissed. Because insanity leads to pissiness. But the hatch appears to be somewhat insane too cause when he tried to open it he was injured in the leg somehow with a ... stick or something. I don't know. Anyhoo. Somewhere along the line Locke had this weird dream where he saw a plane crash and a bloody Boone talking about Teresa (Boone's nanny when he was 6) falling up and down the stairs or something. So, yeah. Crazy is as crazy does and Locke decides that's a sign to go off cavorting into the jungle with an injured leg and Boone to find the plane crash.
So they're on their way through the jungle and Locke's falling over every few minutes cause his legs are giving out on him or some shit. They find rosary beads in a tree and then the body they were once attached to, so that's fun. The centipede in the eye socket was buggy good fun as well. Mmmm. I was mostly impressed that Locke didn't try to actually date the clothing, a la super!jack from the ep where they found the bodies in the cave. Blah, blah, dead body cakes, poisonous centipedes, blah.
The body may or may not be that of a Nigerian priest. Which is weird. I mean, that goes without saying on this show but still. Dead, bug-riddled body of a possible Nigerian priest shows up with a gun? Well, it's unlikely he's a priest given what they find in the plane later. Well, no, maybe not. Oh, who knows. It's just one more layer to the show. A new and interesting one.
The episodes with the most tension are often always the funniest ones and this one was no different. As seemingly inane as the Sawyer storyline was it was actually pretty fun and obviously showed some advancement in the Sawyer/Kate/Jack triangle. I snorted like mad over Jack's questioning of Sawyer, asking him if he'd slept with a prostitute, if he'd every had an STI. With Kate sitting there. Too, too fun. I mean, humiliating and totally a way of one guy trying to dig on the other guy but still, just too funny when it IS the humour of the ep. *hums "Sawyer's got syphilis" under her breath*
Also, what was that guy doing beating that piece of metal? Was that a garbage can? If so, when did the cast of Stomp show up on the island?
I do have an issue with the Kate/Jack interaction though. Simpering fools, both of them. She asked Jack to help Sawyer and he only did it cause she asked and there were making of the eyes and no chemistry and Kate, YOU SUCK! *sigh* Whatever. You're such a freak.
So Locke's legs give out almost completely and he explains about his paralysis and the island and why he needs to keep going. And since Boone is so totally sucked into the Cult O'Locke he's all gung ho and practically carries Locke along with him, thus spurring on the Boone/Locke shippers like whoa. They're hoofing along but then manage to find the plane and Locke starts laughing really, really creepily. I can't tell whether to be very very creeped out or not. I might have gotten the whole The Shining image in my mind at the beginning and never got it out. That movie was creepy. Not really scary, but enough to make you wonder. Just like this.
Locke's creepy, yes.
The next scene was one of the funniest things ever. EVER! Jack comes to give Sawyer his diagnosis. Hyperopia. It's dire. It's life altering. It's something horribly awful! It's FARSIGHTEDNESS!!! I was wondering what Jack was pulling out of that case and how ha managed to bring a whole case full of glasses on board with him when he's not even an optometrist but then I realized they were dead people!glasses. Which could possibly be the next plot for a horror movie, when you think about it. Meanwhile there are scenes of Sayid melting and fixing some frames for Sawyer and it's the sweetest thing ever. So much fun. Now comes the best part ever, courtesy of Hurley. "Looks like someone steamrolled Harry Potter." *dies a thousand deaths all over again* That's... *dies more*
Back to Locke and Boone. Locke has managed to get Boone to climb up those funny vine things and get into the plane which really isn't the sturdiest thing in the world. Boone freaks out a little when another body falls on him. You'd think by this point they'd all be somewhat used to dead things falling on/around/near them. Boone also find a bunch of heroin which the plane was smuggling. Enough to keep Charlie set for quite a while. Let's just hope that he doesn't get a hole of it so the fangirls can't go all insane and start confusing their words again, thinking he's addicted to heroines. *facepalm*
Remember how I said the plane wasn't sturdy, up there in the trees? Yeah, it really, really isn't. Plane go crash, Boone go break, Locke go OMGWTF!! But it did give him the incentive to get his ass in gear and pull Boone from the wreckage.
Now, while all this shit is going down we've been getting flashbacks to Locke's past. Which all ties in with the stuff that I was hazy on at the beginning. But basically Locke found out who his father was and no, it wasn't immaculate conception. His father is some rich to-do behind some gate somewhere. Locke drove an old Beetle which was really funny. It was. Ha ha. So anyhoo, he goes off to meet daddy dearest who takes him under his wing to some extent. They're seeing each other a lot, making friends and Locke's getting all sorts of warm and fuzzy feelings for him cause hey, it's his dad. So he does the honourable son thing and offers him a kidney when he finds out that his dad is on dialysis.
Guess what? His dad's a penis. Takes his kidney and runs.
Locke finds out from his mom who was apparently given money by his father to tell him about his dad or something. Which, wow. Locke, you got screwed buddy. I can sort of forgive your total weird creepiness cause if they were my parents? I'd be fucked up in the head too. So all the power to you. Which you'll just use to build your cult. Meh. You were a fucked up child, you can have a cult. *sigh* But no Kool-Aid!
Locke manages to get Boone back to the caves where Jack jumps into action trying to save his ass and Locke disappears. Back to the hatch and in the flashback, to his father's house where he's not allowed inside. This was an AMAZING scene. The music, Locke and his emotions- the POWER of the scene. It was easily one of the best scenes I've seen in this show. Beautiful and heart wrenching and just- amazing. Terry O'Quinn is a fabulous actor and he owned this scene. Loved it. The music especially, I really want that song.
The ending? With the hatch and the light? Holy shit. What a way to end an ep. But do we expect any different? Well, yeah, when it ends with some lame ass shot of Charlie and Claire but lately it's bee cool shit like this.
Yeah, these past few eps have been so fucking cool. The show was in a slump for a few eps back around 1x12-1x14-ish but now it's picking up and it's WOW WOW WOW. And there's still like- 5 eps left!
The next ep looks decidedly dire. JJ has said that he's seen a rough cut of the "big death" so it's obviously not happening in the season finale. Is it happening next week? The previews certainly look dire enough. Boone? Or is it Claire? I mean, you think Boone cause he's all- "let me go" to Jack but then that's what they would do to throw you off. It would totally upset the balance of everything if Claire were the one to kick it. I have no idea what's going on but I'm raring to go for next week.
My love for this show knows no bounds. NO BOUNDS. I can TASTE the dvd boxed set already.
Tastes kind of plastic-y.
And then there was Alias and guess what? Or strongly dislike it even! I thought it was funny and hip and it was all because of Marshall. Nadia barely said two words, there was little Syd/Vaughn interaction (although what there was of it was lame) and MARSHALL! Am I evil to kind of wish they'd kill Syd and just make the show all about Marshall now? Or at least incapacitate her for awhile and let him move more to the forefront? Sark could be his sidekick! I'll need to go back and watch the season again once it's complete, I'm sure, to get a better overall view of it but at this very moment I'm less than impressed (as I'm sure you all know already) so this ep, although doing nothing for the overall season plot, was a fun break from the humdrum that's been going on.
Some randomness: Drew Goddard was a writer for this ep, how cool is that? He rocks my socks off all the time. Marshall getting called Chongo in Cuba. "Your other North!" The lanthanide song!
marishna: SPORK!
kantayra: SPORK!
kantayra: YES!
kantayra: SQUISHY!
marishna *IZ DYING DEAD SQUISHED*
kantayra: MARSHALL IS LOVE! OMG! *WIBBLE!FOAMS*
Aaaaand. Yeah. That's that. Oh, but Sydney really kind of annoyed me. With her whimpering and keeping the cell phone light on and shit. Way to be. And why didn't the dude's bullet wound ooze? *ponders*
Veronica Mars!!!
When we last left off it was almost a month ago and we were left hanging with a mother of a cliffhanger. Literally. Veronica had finally tracked her mother down in Bairstow, drunk out of her tree. The security guy from Kane Enterprises had followed her and I'm sure everyone thought there was going to be a shoot out or something like it. The end.
Until last night. Right off the bat Veronica realizes that the security guy (whose name escapes me, nothing new) must have bugged her to have been able to get to Bairstow at exactly the same time. She wisely decides not to smuch the bug and, of course, looks for a way to use it to her advantage.
At school there's some bug basketball game coming up which is good cause it puts to use Wallace's newly acquired b-ball skills, something the writers seemed to just dump on him, making him the big shot of the team. He's quite well-known around school now which is pretty much the position Veronica had been in just a year earlier. Only without the sweaty fondling of balls and constant rubbing against like 20 other guys on the floor.
*blinks*
What? I was talking basketball. Anyhoo. Wallace is popular and Veronica is working for the principal now to find the school mascot, a parrot. For her troubles she manages to get some nifty school perks. Well, nifty for high school anyway. But all good must balance with evil (I'm sure it says that somewhere) and she runs across Duncan and Meg in the hallway- necking and holding hands and generally being a cute couple. Now, Meg IS nice and all and in the very first ep she was featured in (1x08- Like a Virgin, wasn't it?) but since then she's gotten somewhat annoying and ... I don't know. There's just something about her I don't like. Maybe it's the actress or it's something we're not supposed to like about her. Could just be that I'm paranoid. Either way, I don't really like her.
Neptune is supposed to be playing against some Pan High, who the Neptunes think stole their parrot. So in retribution their goat gets stolen. My school's mascot was a star. We were the stars. North stars at that. Try and steal that, you bunch of bastards.
I hate school sports.
Veronica decides to go undercover at pan high as Betty, which is lovely. She finds out about this place on the highway where teens go to get high and make out and buy hot stereo equipment. She heads over to try and bring down the guy who allegedly stole the parrot and instead manages to find out Weevil is the bookie taking bets on the game. I desperately need to see more Veronica/Weevil interaction cause it's too, too good. Why aren't there more Veronica/Weevil shippers? I get what people see in Veronica/Logan (I REFUSE to call them LoVe) but come on! Veronica/Weevil! They're funny and hot together! And he's hot! And there's hotness!
Now, sometimes the logic of this show is beyond me. Like how at least like- seven cars and about twenty people can be standing around at an overlook on the highway with illegal substances and other products, making illegal sporting bets and possibly having public sex without the cops patrolling the area. IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. In my senior year we had a "senior class picnic" that a good chunk of the grade 12's went to. Within a half hour there was a road block set up with cops searching out trunks for booze, cops at the site dumping out alchol and people either leaving/not coming because of said cops. This was a one day thing that had never happened before and to my knowledge hasn't happened since. But this is TV, so I can let it slide I guess. Just a niggling thing.
Veronica's still with Deputy Cottonmouth. *sigh* Yeah, he's easy on the eyes but he has the emotional range of wallpaper. The flowered kind. They go on a date, Meg and Duncan are there with his parents, things are awkward.
Wallace has the Pan High goat. In the back of a van that looks like a rejected 1970's shag bedroom. VERY LAME. Veronica is also the one that's been making Wallace his spirit boxes with snickerdoodles in them. That was one of the best things I've ever seen. I have no wallace/veronica shipping feelings but OMGSOCUTE!
The basketball mascot storyline was fun but Veronica finding her mom definitely took the cake. The emotion of it all, her mom's desperation, her mom not even knowing who Veronica's dad is (I still maintain that Keith is her dad), putting her in rehab. That was the most heartbreaking of it, for me. Spending her life savings to that point to put her mom in a programme so she could come home. But I don't think she will. I don't think she'll survive more than a week in rehab, personally. There are too many other variables and as much as her mom misses Veronica she's too paranoid, too depressed and too on her own right now. I'm wondering if the mom situation won't carry over into next season.
Another logic thing- how much money has Veronica made while working for her dad if she had enough to go to school for all those years? Wow wow wow. And what kind of treatment facility did she check her mom into? Holy shit. *cuddles free healthcare*
I can't wait to find out who Abel's daughter is. And if Veronica's mom was having an affair with Jake Kane and how his wife fits into it all.
This show kicks all the asses. ALL.
More wibble!foaming needed- day by day I get more and more excited cause July is THAT much closer. Why am I so excited, you may ask? Cause Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince comes out on July 16th. And what's July 16th? ONLY MY BIRTHDAY! Some girls from work and I have already started talking about going to the midnight opening thing they'll most likely have here at the Chapters that just happens to be right across the mall from the theatre. HOW MUCH FUN IS THAT? I just had to share my excitement.
I must work on my paper. It's due Monday. I have a page. And it's not even that good. MUST WORK. AND MUST NOT FALL ASLEEP!
[ETA] AIM is a bitch whore and booted me off. *kicks it*

*kicks it*
