I'm not cutting any of this because I'm being so general and not spoiling any specific plot points.
Okay, so I started watching One Tree Hill. I watched the first two episodes a couple weeks ago and was so turned off it took me until a couple days ago to try again. Want to know why?
I hated Nathan. I hated Haley. I hated Peyton. I hated Dan. I kinda hated on Lucas' mom. I hate basketball. I thought the acting was bad, the characters were lame-ass, over-exaggerations of pseudo-intelligent, wannabe adult teenagers made me want to barf and it was just generally blah for me.
The pilot? Pretty much loathed it. LOATHED. The only character I could stand, ironically in that Alanis Morissette way? Lucas, aka CMM.
Now, however, I've just finished watching 1x06 Every Night Is Another Story and all I have to say is I CAN'T HANDLE ANOTHER SHOW/FANDOM. Are there more episodes like this one? Please tell me the episodes are more like this one.
I waffle on Nathan, still. Sometimes he's a nice guy and other times he reverts into this total narcissistic asshole and I KNOW that's probably the way the character's supposed to be- rich, privileged boy who finds out life's not as peachy as he thought but still, it's a little too MPD for my liking.
I don't mind Haley at all now, since they toned her down from the busy-body know-it-all in the first couple eps. Peyton- I kinda want to smack her. It seemed WAY too early in the show to be giving her all that angst she was carrying and she seriously bugs most of the time. I like her best when she's just shooting the shit with other people like Whitey or Haley. I didn't think Brooke would be as dumb or slutty as she's been. I like Sophia Bush so I hope Brooke gets deeper and quick.
Dan. OH GOD DAN. I'm irritated by the extremes these characters take. This guy? I don't understand how no one hasn't put a 2x4 through his eye yet. What a fucking loser. Lucas' mom still irks me, too. I can't put my finger on why, exactly, but she's kinda boring to me. Keith, though? I kinda heart Keith. I think he's a sexy bitch.
So, yeah. I need more episodes like Every Night Is Another Story and this show will keep growing on me. *headdesk* I SO don't need a new show. :(

Date: 2007-06-23 06:33 am (UTC)Srsly. I watched the pilot when it premiered and I hated it too. Didn't pick the show back up until six more episodes had aired and I've been with it ever since. The thing about OTH is...it just keeps getting better. It really does. Season three and four own all.
There are things that happen on the show in season two that, if you get there, I need to explain the real life reasons for it so you don't think it's totally ridic.
OTH is television crack. Crazy TV soap opera things happen. Lucas and Nathan are in comas every season. People die. People kill. Life long secrets get revealed. It's soap yeah. But the writing is fantastic, the dialogue even better, the acting gets better each season. And the writers acknowledge that OTH teenagers go to the extreme as far as what high school is really like.
But dear god. I love this show. Stick through seasons one and two (which I love) and you'll see how they are so worth the greatness of seasons three and four.
And really. Season five is going to own.
If you hate Peyton, we're going to have a problem. :X

Date: 2007-06-23 08:49 am (UTC)Give the show a little more time to settle in your taste buds. There are truly amazing twists and plots that are worth waiting for. And the characters, oh you will love and hate 'em simultaneously. :P
Season Two, however, wil get you hook, line and sinker. :)
Happy watching!

Date: 2007-06-23 01:19 pm (UTC)I hope that the show keeps on growing on me either. I think it's just enjoyable enough to look at despite other things and sorta addicting also, but these shows almost always are ;)
