How long is long enough before people can start using HP7 icons uncut, would you say?

Personally, I think people should be able to use them now. Rabid HP fans who'd mainly be the ones to make a huge fuss over icons would have read the book by now.

I'd imagine it depends on what the icons are. I mean, how spoilery they are... But, gotta agree with [livejournal.com profile] lokiie, the most rabid probably have already read it.

Pants indeed!

I can't agree with the above posters, week isn't a very long time. Just 'cause you're not a rabid fan doesn't mean you don't like being surprised. =) I'd give it a month, personally.

I say now is fine. It's been out over a week right? Two? I'm pretty sure the people who care about spoilers have already read the book.

I'd say go ahead. It's been a week's race period. A large majority of fans have completed the book. And if you haven't, well, the internet is not the best place for you to be if you're all worried about spoilers, is it? Blunt, but true.

*grace period, that is.

I think now is OK. I always believed that one week was a good grace period. By then anyone who really cares about the series should have had a chance to read it already, and if someone hasn't read it already, they probably don't care that much about being spoiled.

Until the non-English versions have come out + 4weeks? Dunno. I'm not using very spoilery (epilogue) ones, because I have some people on my flist who wait until the book comes out in their language.

I'd be slightly upset if I saw a spoilery icon at this point, but people are already using them so I don't know... I mean, no one can stop anyone from doing it. Obviously, I'm staying away from HP comms all together, but I did see someone use a spoilery icon for their reply in a post where someone mentioned they hadn't read it yet, and I thought that was extremely rude.

I'd like it if people would give it a month (rather than a week, which isn't that long), but obviously you wouldn't be the only one using them so... whatever you feel like I guess.

Well I still haven't had time to read it but I think anyone who has a friends list that they read regularly just has to accept that they might get spoiled on something. :X

Now. If you haven't read it by now, you obviously don't care about reading/seeing spoilers very much. And also, if you haven't read it, you shouldn't be on the internet right now. Hell, JK had TV interviews filled with spoilers. So it's not such a big deal anymore.

That's true. My flist, or at least the people who have replied here, are rather divided on the matter. But I do agree with the whole "being on the internet and trying to avoid being spoiled" thing. I don't think it's reasonable to ask someone to stay off the internet where they risk getting spoiled if they haven't read the book yet but the book's been available for dl since before it was released in stores so they could have been safe before everyone else was.

So, yeah.
