So soleta_nf posted the email she sent to feedback@livejournal.com and I figured I've got some time to spare so hey! Why not write a letter to LiveJournal?

I'm basically resigned to the fact that whatever is going to happen will happen and we-- fandom, the users-- have absolutely no say or control over it. And you know what? That's okay.

LJ is now your business. You run it, you control it, you rule with an iron fist. Good on you. You could say that only people wearing yellow underpants and blue shirts may be allowed to use your product now and I'd be down with that. Miffed, sure, because I don't own yellow underpants, but it's YOUR business so rock on.

I would, however, appreciate some basic common courtesy so forewarn us and say, "Hey guys, this is what we're doing now and if you don't follow what we're doing here, we're going to kick you off." Mean? Yeah, kinda. Dictator-esque? Perhaps. Ire-inducing? You betcha. Reasonable? Yes. BECAUSE YOU WOULD HAVE WARNED US. You would have had TWO CLUES about what you wanted to do and what you were going to do and would have DONE IT.

Right now? You don't know your head from your ass. You have a massive PR nightmare on your hands and let's face it-- your rep? Kinda shot to shit right now.

I'm not going to threaten to leave. I'm here until my paid time runs out in October, for sure, because I want to get what I paid for. I don't want to leave, still, although I'll be VERY hardpressed to give you ANY more money. If you deem me a threat and delete me before that it's certainly your perogative. But rest assured-- I will talk. I'll blog on other sites, I'll comment on other people's posts, I'll tell the people in my day-to-day life about what a shitfest LiveJournal turned out to be because they got scared and greedy.

We're not asking for much. A well-worded, thought out and concise statement about the current position of LJ. A clear plan on what the hell you're doing, who's doing it, who's deciding all this stuff and what sort of method is being followed to smoke out the "wrong-doers". Someone to stand up in a way that ISN'T demeaning, rude and jackassed and represent the company and speak to everyone potentially affected (which is pretty much every LJ user, whether they're in fandom or not) and let them know what's going on.

I'm tired and annoyed and, like I said before, resigned to the fact that I have no control in this matter. But, again, I will tell everyone I can about how craptastic LJ turned out to be because they shot themselves in the foot. The fact that the creator of the service is leaving the company because of how 6A runs it now, that he's bored and has nothing to do while y'all run it into the ground? Ace. Thumbs up, for sure. That will be a GREAT selling point.

We just want respect. We want common courtesy and an official, FIRM statement about what the hell is going on. Something an actual PR team put together and not some random LJ staff member whose only goal in life seems to be poking fandom for shits and giggles.

So you take a step back. Decide what it is you're all doing, what you want to say about it, who is being affected by it (and don't pussy foot around about this "artistic merit" bullshit-- we all know that's a load of crap) and STAND BY IT.

And if, somehow, you all make it out of this in the next year alive and still functioning and in need of staff, I'll be looking for a job in PR next year. An one-legged howler monkey with herpes could do better than you're doing right now, so you should look me up. I can be good at backstabbing and manipulation, too!

I pulled a kantayra with the "yours in christ" thing. Hee!

You know what? I really don't care anymore. I care that people are being targeted for no good reason that we know of and that THAT'S the point of a lot of people's arguements. We have no idea what's going on. We just want some answers. LJ can do whatever the hell they want as long as we can have a little warning to be like- okay, cool. I'm going. At this point I'm very, very sure LJ's not getting any more money from me. I refuse to say never because you never know what's going to happen, and I don't WANT to leave LJ but as my previous post indicates, I'm very ready to, if the need arises. I've backed up my journal and I'm in the process of adding more fics to my fic site.

I'm ready to go even though I don't want to but at this point I just. don't. care. Grow some balls, make a statement and stand by the fucking thing. That's all I want at this point.

And a million dollars.

Very very good post.
They just need to be clear and because they've been afraid too from the start, they keep lying and that isn't making things any better. Just. Yeah, great post.

That's surprisingly a lot of what I was thinking really. It's not about the content they do or don't want so much as the lack of clear rules and clear communication. And yeah, I'm backing up everywhere myself, though I don't know what that'll mean for me staying or going in the long term, I know I'll be putting a lot more of my content elsewhere until the rules are clear (if that ever happens).

And you've really put it perfectly. My issue really isn't with the bans; it's with how damned incompetently everything is being handled. At least ff.net came out and said "no NC-17," so that people could move on if it wasn't the right place for them anymore. 6A is trying to have their cake and eat it too, and it makes me want to stab them lots and lots. I mean, how stupid are they that they didn't think anyone would notice? o.O *mind boggles*

That said, you'd make an excellent PR person! I bet you could even make one whole comment without getting f_w'ed, which is more that these yokels can do these days...

I really liked your email. You brought up some good points there. I really hope they get their head out their asses about this and straighten it out.
