Dean likes marmalade on his toast: y/n? If no, what then?

I'm thinking of getting a new gmail account for actual use and changing my LJ comments over to there so I could use the chat feature (does it work on Macs with Netscape?) on there. I use Yahoo right now. Has Gmail ever worked out needing subject lines or all the LJ emails get grouped into the same bundle of messages? People who use gmail for their comments, what's it like? Anyone switched from Yahoo to Gmail?

The longer I stave off sleep the farther away 4:45am seems.

Dean doesn't like marmalade on his toast because he's not from far enough south in the US to use that term. ;) He might like some grape jelly on his toast, or strawberry. Like it comes in those little rectangle packages at Dennys and IHOP.

And I *vastly* prefer Gmail, particularly for dealing with LJ comments. It threads the conversation really nicely, making it quite easy to keep conversations straight.

I bet he'd be the kind to put honey on his toast for a week just because he knows how bitchy Sam gets when he leaves sticky fingerprints all over the place, including on his laptop.

Dean doesnt say shit like marmalade. It's Jam. And it's strawberry ;)

Comments for entries group in gmail...so like all the comments you get on one entry go to one email...I use mine for comments and enjoy it

Strawberry jam pwns all. But only the kind without chunks. That shit makes me gag.

Wait, people don't like the bundling? I LOVE that it bundles all of my comments together. SO MUCH.

When gmail first kind of started rolling around it would bundle ALL LJ comments together into one. The only alternative to it at that time was to make sure you had something in the subject line to make them go into different bundles or comments from entry A, B AND C would all go into one and there was no way to guarantee that people would use subject lines to you. That's what I meant.

I guess they've figured out how to separate the comments from LJ so each entry or thread gets its own comment bundle?

Now it's that each entry gets its own comment bundle, but if you start a conversation in a thread (like this one, where I comment and then you comment and then I comment) it separates that conversation into its own bundle.

I like it because when I post, like, a really long fic that gets several comments? I don't have to scroll down past the fic for EVERY time I get a comment (because it automatically just shows the fic once, and then every comment underneath).

If that makes sense?

I think Dean has jam on his toast. Sometimes, though, he has peanut butter AND jam together. With loads of butter. Sam always makes disgusted faces at him for that, and Dean just smirks at him with jam all over his face and his mouth half-open, displaying the half-chewed mass of bread and peanut butter and jam.

I tried using Gmail for my comments but got confused so I went back to Yahoo. *l*

I tried gmail, but I honestly prefer Yahoo. I find Gmail bundling the messages is absurdy annoying, and even the visual of yahoo is better for me.

But yeah, this is me. Maybe you're like it better.

I'm tempted to go back to the old school format for yahoo mail. I find that with their new frames version it really bungs up my computer. If I do a lot of moving of emails or answering comments my computer rebels against it. I find the screens too small a lot of the time, too. I dunno. I have yet to find an email provider I'm 100% happy with.

Oh I still use the old format, I didn't change to the new one. I'm happy with my old yahoo.

The only annoying thing with the bundling, is that it doesn't do it when someone types in a subject to the comments. That's really rare though. And like Cam said, it only bundles the comments per entry, if that made any sense. I much, much prefer it to any other email client I've used in the past.

I tried it out here at work, just to get into my account that I have now and I don't think I could handle using gmail on this Mac with netscape. I hates it, I do. It burns a little. Maybe I'll just stick with the yahoo for now.

I prefer Gmail over yahoo, but I do hate the Gmail bundling. It bothers me that I can't pick and choose what to bundle. So I make all my accounts go into outlook that's nice for me.

And the gmail chat feature is so much fun.

The chat thing was also a reason why I thought it would be cool to switch but netscape on a mac (os 9, I think?) kinda kills every added feature in gmail. Lame.

I couldn't live without the Gmail bundling feature anymore! It's so much nice to have a mail bundle for each post and not a bazillion different LJ comments mails. What Gmail will do, is it'll put all first comments to a post in one bundle, and then it'll bundle all answers to comments together. (Because for one the subject line is 'reply to your post' and for the other it's 'reply to your comment'.) Personally, I love it. That way I can see how much feedback I actually got on a story, for example, because LJ will show me how many mails are in my 'reply to post' bundle, and I'll have all comment conversations neatly bundled together.

Gmail chat is very awesome. As are the labels instead of folders to archive your mails. I also like gmail's feature that automatically hides text passages that appear in a previous mail in the bundle, so you don't have to scroll past your entry every time you get a comment mail and if someone replies to a mail you don't see the whole tail of your previous mails. But then I haven't used anything else for over a year now, so no clue what's particular to gmail and what others have figured out as well.

Yeah, going right to the pertinent comment is awesome. But my computer at work just doesn't support a lot of stuff, including the gmail chat feature, so that loses hardcore.

Jelly rather than marmalade, but when he's in the right places, Dean *loves* apple butter on his toast.
