I enjoyed this episode, and have been looking forward to it since I heard John speak about it briefly in an interview about a month ago. It was a fun sort of episode, nothing to earth-shattering.
The guy who kept hitting on Tosh looked like a less scary Garey Busey. Is anyone who looks like Garey Busey less scary? Probably just because they're NOT Garey Busey.
Gwen was pretty badass with the gun that she hid in her bouquet. What I couldn't understand, though, was why with everyone unloading whole clips into the she!monster, why they wouldn't hit her at least once in the effing head? She's like a zombie, guys! Sort of. Either way, you shoot something in the brain, most of the time they die.
And Rhys with the chainsaw! I was really, seriously looking forward to him carving the bitch up! I don't know if that would have been too much for his character right now or what. He's pretty deep in with Torchwood by now but that would have been a step further. Maybe the writers don't want him to go quite that far. Still, when it stalled out I kind of thought he was just going to bury it into her midsection in a spray of black, bloody gunk. Maybe I watch too much of this stuff...
Once again we get some raunchy innuendo about Jack and Ianto but not much more. A dance. Woo. I'm getting slightly ticked off at the way things are hinted between them but we know NOTHING about them, especially Ianto. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE GIVE US SOMETHING MORE! There's been hints things might not be as great between Jack and Ianto (on Jack's part moreso, I think, but I could see Ianto finally putting his foot down and telling Jack to shape up or ship out) all season. I know it's not for censorship on British TV or anything like that so there's either some sort of reason for not advancing the Jack/Ianto 'ship on screen or they're just not focusing on it in favour of other storylines. Either way, it's frustrating and unsatisfying. I'm coming to my limit of seeing Ianto playing for the laughs and mooning after Jack through puppydog eyes and suggestive lines. It's time to shit or get off the pot, TW. Please not literally because I wouldn't put it past Jack....
I have to wonder if they're not advancing that whole thing because there's some sort of big showdown building to address what's been happening between Jack and Gwen all season. I don't think I can see Jack falling into bed with Gwen or really ever giving her more than lingering touches and the hope that something would happen between them. Even in a moment of weakness I can't see him ever promising her anything other than to always be there for her and to keep her safe. However, I can see Gwen leaving Rhys in a heartbeat if Jack ever gave her something she interpreted as a sign of love or even a fling. Sad, but true.
Next week looks delightfully creepy. There's always something about nasty things happening at night, but it's a CIRCUS, which makes it all the more sinister. And do I spy Ianto in jeans?
