Um. Wow. It's going to be a loooooong summer without this show.
super_summer will hopefully have concrete timeline after the upfronts so I can throw myself into that and everyone can have a thorough review of every episode and character. If this is your first time hearing about
super_summer it's not surprising as I haven't had time to think about it until now and didn't want to until the season was coming to and end and .... *sniff* It is. Depending on how the upfronts go in a couple weeks I'll decide when the start date is. Still ironing out details at the moment but keep your ears open.
Also,
vanished_tv for the new Fox show Vanished starring, among others, Gale Harold. Not much to stick in there yet but feel free to go over and check it out, suggest things, get the ball rolling.
Now. Important things.
I knew nothing about this episode. I watched the promo from last month (the "six episodes left" when there were only four?) and I remembered things from that one that I figured out would be in this one, like John getting taken. But that was it, I knew nothing else. And I wasn't disappointed.
There was wibbling and finally a re-emergence of Sam's visions and Papa sent the boys of to kill the demon on their own- god I love this show so hard. I like John again. It's just very hard to really get a feel for a character when there's so little information given and fandom forms their own canon around him, builds him up. I still call bullshit on him from last week but this week he had no choice, and he knew it.
I was disappointed that we didn't get to actually meet Pastor Jim or Caleb but as someone mentioned in the Fcuk Chat, they were probably just mentioned throughout the season for this very purpose. At least Meg didn't go after Missouri but perhaps they want her around for next season? Maybe Sam will have to have someone to train him to use his powers or something?
One thing I absolutely loved was that the scene when Dean shows up at the meet point to give John the fake gun and Sam and John are already there. It's the perfect set up for one of my
highwaymiles fics (I have two and I haven't started either yet because I'm lame and thank GOD the deadline was extended). I loved the interaction between all of the Winchesters. Dean telling Sam not to thank him as if he would die (I wonder if I can post the fic I had started that went something like that now?), their reaction to finding out their father was in trouble, John doing whatever he could to get away, trying to buy the boys some time.
Meg... oh lord. The actress has bad hair. BAD HAIR. It looks like a wig. And the makeup they use/have to put her in is nasty. In her opening scenes she had massive bags under her eyes. Maybe the actress just isn't aging well or maybe she's a partier or something, I don't know. As for Meg herself- I'm not sure what to think. She's obviously going to die. I mean, she has to. She'd make a shitty demon to battle next season and she's really quite weak, when you think about it. Set against other evil characters she's nothing. Look at the way the guy demon shot her without a second thought. Had that been the real gun she'd be dead and we'd be rid of her. Not that the guy demon would have been a better replacement seeing as how he had something like- one line? She's just not strong enough to be a big bad on her own. So I'm betting on her taking the final and real dirtnap next week. I don't think she realized the severity of the situation that she could have been ended when the dude shot her because she didn't know on her own if the gun was real or not. So whatever.
I don't think John's dead right now. It's obviously bait to bring the boys out of hiding so the demon can get the real gun and finish them. But I worry about John and fear that next week may be his last. I'm spoiler free so this is baseless, but I still worry. I also think the demon will be killed next week but that the repercussions and the ... demon network? involved with it will, of course, drift into next season. It has to. There's no way a quest like this can be tied up neatly in one episode and have the next season not even mention any of this. Sam's visions, the reason why the demon goes after infants with powers, the lingering effects from the lifestyle they have, Dean's place in the world, Sam potentially leaving ... so much to think about!
One of the best lines from the night? When Papa is wibbling and he's going on about what he wants and he says, "I want Dean to have a home." And I think that's something that everyone overlooks with him. He was raised to be the perfect hunter and Sam was always the one that rebeled against it, wanting the steady life. But Dean's the one that always admits he wants the family together, that he relies on them and that if they shatter he'll go with them. He's the one that wants the home and that's the true meaning of "normal"- a family and a home, however weird and twisted and "not-normal" it is. Oh, Dean. *squishes him*
And who didn't love the music montage opening? The song, the clips, the tone- all of it set the episode so beautifully. I wonder if we'll get the same thing next week?

Date: 2006-04-28 09:20 am (UTC)The kiss thing, besides the fact that any time someone shoves the other against the wall it equals kisses, did you see that little head dip thing between the boys? There was this tiny tiny thing they both did, at the same time and I really honestly thought they were going to kiss for a moment.
Bah, I'm just so dirty sometimes... hehe. :)

Date: 2006-04-28 01:43 pm (UTC)I'm so weak. I am all teary now. Wow. Phew. I still need to breathe.
Loved that episode and the final scenes with Dean and Sam where just gorgeous. This time it was Sam who got all "Don't talk about them like that." instead of Dean (pilot).
And hehe, yes, the "OMG, kiss him." There was a moment where it totally looked like if Dean is really considering kissing his brother. Weee.
Thanks also for this:
"I want Dean to have a home." And I think that's something that everyone overlooks with him. This? So right. E-v-e-r-y word. Perfect. :)
