I don't want to fan the flames and I hate how this whole thing has made fandom recoil in horror at what's gone on today but I'm just so disgusted by some of fandom's reaction to this whole Katie Cassidy thing I want to comment further.
Some people have brought up what a double-standard there is in fandom because if Jared or Jensen had gotten caught for public intoxication or drunk driving or something there would be a lot of people (not all) who would be willing to over-look their indiscretion because of who they are. I'm pretty much in agreement with this assessment right now.
Recounts and videos from this past weekend's Chicago con showcase one of the questions asked of Jensen as something along the lines of, "What's the stupidest thing you or Jared have done while drunk?" Jensen didn't answer that which leads me to probably accurately infer that yeah, they'd been drunk enough to do something stupid and it's not something they want out there publically. Who knows? Maybe it's even something worse than what Katie did.
I just can't reconcile that there might be people in fandom who were disappointed, maybe a little upset, that they didn't get to hear a tale of Jared and/or Jensen's awesome drunken adventures and then would turn around and rake Katie over the coals for such a minor infraction compared to a lot of Hollywood's arrested stars and even people in this fandom. Yeah, it's fun to hear people's "I was soooo drunk" stories but not when you're going to be two-faced depending on who the story is about.
If you're so upset by this/her/her character that you want to wish her harm, call her vindictive names, hope she's written off the show because of it, etc, maybe you should step back from the show and fandom and reconsider your priorities. Violent reactions to the bad choices of someone you don't even know makes a fandom/show look just as bad as some people are accusing Katie of making Supernatural look.

Date: 2007-11-16 04:31 am (UTC)Supernatural fandom... you wank so hard. >.<
I drank when I was underage. I wasn't caught. Does that make me better or worse than her? O_o

Date: 2007-11-16 04:35 am (UTC)Are people actually shocked that someone in Hollywood got drunk or high and partied (or whatever she did)?
I don't like the girl, but stories like that actually tend to MAKE me like someone more. Makes them a bit more human and less "famous", if that makes any sense.
Also - either way - it's a total double standard. Hotass female stars get much more flak than male stars. It's ridiculous, but it won't ever change.
Girls are supposed to be pure and sweet and innocent and perfect, and .. well, "boys will be boys".
*rolls eyes hard*
I have 3 sons, and sometimes I find myself perpetuating the double standard. I thank god I don't have daughters, because I see today's teenage girls and want to vomit. But they wouldn't be that way if it weren't for teenage boys.
Eh. I'm high on meds, and rambling when I should be sleeping. I really just wanted to know what happened with the girl, lol.
*hugs*

Dude. Ok - I'm not even gonna go there, but the final line in that article about O.J. Simpson?
Wow. Was that fucking necessary?! Jeez.
Though, to be selfish for our show, this might finally garner some more attention.
Bad publicity is good publicity. And David Cassidy's daughter being stupid (I could care less about the drinking, but the fact that she tried using another actress' name - from SUPERNATURAL no less, means she's an ass of the highest order) is definitely going to get SOME attention.
So. YAY!

Date: 2007-11-16 04:47 am (UTC)I'm just like- okay, lying wasn't smart. But people do it every day to get out of those situations. She wasn't driving and some people in fandom have used this opportunity to express their very, very hostile anger toward her and her character. She didn't pull Taylor's name out of her ass, either. They're friends, or were.
I just... I don't know. I don't really care about the situation so much as how people have reacted to it and how big they're making it out to be.

Date: 2007-11-16 05:11 am (UTC)And, lol, you know Supernatural fans wank over much less than this. The less posted about it, the better. I hadn't heard of it until this post, but I'm sure by tomorrow it'll be all over the place.
I wonder if Kripke minds stuff like that. You know Ostroff'll be pleased. Gives her another reason to promote the show less.
I read the police report - and the arresting officer states that he arrested her for LYING in his statement. I know she was arrested for the underage drinking, but it's written:
"I advised her that she was under arrest for giving me false information."
And the yesterday was cited as being the court date (but I'm done nosing around, lol, so I dunno).
Eh, the wank will pass. People were looking for a good excuse to hate her.
Don't let it stress you out. Just think...free publicity.

Date: 2007-11-16 06:54 am (UTC)I was terrified and started babbling after he left and she calmly pointed out that she'd had half a pound of coke in her spare tire.
Yeah, okay, girlfriend was not the highest class individual of any gender that I have ever dated, but I got good grades so I got away with shit.
If this is the worst thing Katie ever does, she's a better woman than me.

Date: 2007-11-16 08:36 am (UTC)I actually didn't quite get the story, because I've been too busy to keep up with anything, but I just read up and wow. See, if she had been caught drinking and driving, then yeah. But this was just a bit of a stupid thing, but she didn't put other people in danger and really, who doesn't do stupid things like that? I read through a bit of this post at the Supernatural community and omg, some people really need to get a grip. And what you say is so true, if this had been Jared or Jensen, people would not be saying these things about them they're saying about her. It's really really sad, actually.

Date: 2007-11-16 01:00 pm (UTC)If you keep certain comms off your f-list filter (and certain people, lol), you won't even HEAR about the wank, babes.

Date: 2007-11-16 01:04 pm (UTC)Lol yeah that's very true. I keep most general comms off my flist, I just friend newsletters if I want to keep up with news, much easier like that ;)

Date: 2007-11-16 03:49 pm (UTC)I end up missing half the crap on my f-list regardless, which is a plus for me.
Are there any good newsletters out there? I don't think I have any friended.

Date: 2007-11-16 09:03 pm (UTC)Well that comm is the most sane one out there probably, but still, people leave nasty and hateful comments. It's quite unbelievable.

Date: 2007-11-16 10:19 am (UTC)I came home from work last night, sat in front of my computer, read all the posts and literally facepalmed.
I mean, if she did what everyone claims she did (which until it is proved in a court of law I'm assuming she didn't) then SO WHAT? She didn't hurt anyone. She was not driving whilst drunk. She got SCARED. She's HUMAN.
The first time I read the article I genuinely couldn't see the problem - until I remembered that US drinking laws mean you have to be 21 to drink. I would have been so screwed - I was underage drinking back when I was 16 for Christ's sake.
